Counterfeit Product Intelligence: Mapping a $12M Fake Goods Supply Chain from Alibaba to Amazon
August 18, 2025
Outcome
$12M counterfeit operation mapped end-to-end; 340 Amazon listings removed; 3 warehouses identified for customs seizure.
Background
A premium consumer electronics brand noticed a surge in warranty claims for products they hadn't manufactured. Investigation revealed counterfeit versions of their flagship product were being sold on Amazon at a 40% discount.
Investigation Methodology
- Amazon Seller Network Analysis: We analyzed the 340+ Amazon listings selling the counterfeit product, mapping seller accounts, fulfillment methods, and review patterns to identify the network operators.
- Supply Chain Tracing: Product listing photos were reverse-image searched against Alibaba and other wholesale platforms to identify the manufacturing source.
- Logistics Intelligence: FBA shipment data (from publicly available import records) was analyzed to identify the warehouses receiving counterfeit inventory.
Key Findings
- All 340 Amazon listings were managed by a network of 23 seller accounts, all created using a pattern of similar business registrations.
- The counterfeit products were manufactured by 2 factories in Shenzhen, identified through Alibaba product listings that used the brand's trademarked design specifications.
- Import records showed 47 shipments totaling $12M in declared value, entering through 3 U.S. ports and distributed to 3 FBA warehouses.
Outcome
Amazon removed all 340 listings within 48 hours. U.S. Customs was provided with the import documentation, leading to seizure orders at the identified ports. The brand's legal team filed civil suits against the identified operators. Total investigation time: 8 weeks.
