The Serial Workplace Harasser: How OSINT Revealed a Candidate's Pattern Across 3 Companies
August 25, 2025
Outcome
Pattern of harassment complaints documented across 3 employers; hiring decision reversed.
Background
A tech company was preparing to hire a VP of Engineering. References were enthusiastic. However, the HR director had a policy of engaging TraxinteL for all director-level and above hires.
Investigation Methodology
- Court Record Search: We searched civil court records across all jurisdictions where the candidate had previously worked for any cases naming them as a defendant or respondent.
- EEOC & State Agency Search: Where publicly available, we searched for complaints filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state equivalents.
- Digital Trail Analysis: Glassdoor reviews, anonymous workplace forums, and social media discussions referencing the candidate's previous employers were analyzed for patterns.
Key Findings
- A sealed settlement from 2 years prior was referenced in a separate, public court filing at the same company — indicating a harassment-related payout.
- Glassdoor reviews at two of the candidate's previous companies contained thinly veiled references to "toxic engineering leadership" with timing that aligned with the candidate's tenure.
- An anonymous post on a tech industry forum named the candidate directly in connection with inappropriate workplace behavior.
Outcome
The hiring committee was presented with the findings. The offer was rescinded. The company avoided significant legal, cultural, and reputational risk. Total investigation time: 10 business days.
