Scenario

Parents found Discord messages on their 14-year-old's device from an unknown adult who was encouraging the child to meet in person. They asked for help preserving the evidence and reporting it correctly.

Review Approach

  1. Urgent routing first. The parents were directed to report immediately to local police and the NCMEC CyberTipline, and not to confront the adult.
  2. Evidence preservation. With the parents' authorization, screenshots from the child's own device were captured with timestamps, message context, and the adult's visible username and display name.
  3. Public username review. The adult's username was searched on public platforms. Matches were recorded as leads for police, with a note on how common the handle was.

What the Review Surfaced

  • The same username appeared on several public gaming profiles on platforms popular with minors.
  • A public forum post under that handle described meeting "younger friends" from gaming servers. It was preserved and flagged for police review.

Limits of the Review

TraxIntel did not identify the adult, join servers, pose as anyone, or contact the adult or the child. Username matches were labeled as leads because unrelated people can share a handle. Identification and any intervention belonged to law enforcement.

Handoff

The parents filed the CyberTipline and police reports with the evidence package, and received guidance on device safety settings and on where to find support services for the child.
